KFSPP is a secondary school level floorball competition that is organized by the association to further encourage and develop the growth of the sport amongst students between the age of 13-17 years old. The ultimate vision of initiating KFSPP is to push the sport of floorball into the forefront of the Education Ministry’s National Schools Sports Council calendar. This year, the association saw a positive breakthrough with the inclusion of greater support and backing from the Penang Sports Council. With such partnership and support, the association believe that KFSPP can and will grow to a greater level of competitiveness and recognition amongst schools.
KFSPP 2014 saw the participation of 7 schools, namely SMK Bukit Jambul, SMK (P) Convent Green, SMK (P) Methodist, SMK (P) Saint Georges, SMK Hamid Khan, SMK Saint Xavier and SMJK Chung Ling. There were 3 categories in total: The Boys U-18 (5 teams), The Girls U-18 (5 teams) and the Boys U-15 (4 teams). It was also refreshing to have first-timer SMK (P) Saint Georges participating in KFSPP.
It was exciting to see how competitive the sport has grown among school level players. With the cancelling of KFSPP last year due to the unavailability of venue, it was no wonder why this year’s KFSPP saw teams unleashing a thirst and desire to go all out.
The Boys U-15 this year was particularly exciting and adrenaline pumping. Young as these players may be, it was a refreshing sight to see rising players strutting out their skills on court. This year we saw BJ Bahaya (SMK Bukit Jambul) playing in the final against SXI Kamikaze (Saint Xavier Institution). It was a tight end-to-end match. However, the moment BJ Bahaya broke the deadlock, it was a one-sided game from thereon. BJ Bahaya wrapped up the Boys U-15 with a comfortable with of 4-1.
New team, Georgians (SMK (P) Saint Georges), gave a great fight in their first ever KFSPP outing. The Georgians outclassed both the Convent Green Lane teams (CGL Junior and CGL Senior) to earned themselves a 2nd runner-up spot this year. The final of the Girls U-18 saw a familiar rivalry between BJ Bahaya Girls against the KFSPP 2012 champion, G-12 (SMK (P) Methodist). BJ Bahaya took the lead in the first period with 1 goal. The second period saw G-12 coming back from behind to even the score. However, BJ Bahaya managed to bounce back with the winning goal to crowned themselves as the champions for the KFSPP Girls U-18 category.
The Boys U-18 was also pretty neck to neck. However, this year we saw a clear dominance of HK Floorball Team (SMK Hamid Khan), playing very good floorball. BJ Bahaya, KFSPP 2012 champions, took a back seat this year finishing 3rd place. The final of the Boys U-18 saw HK Floorball Team playing against SXI Lunatics (Saint Xavier Institution). But as mentioned, the dominance of HK Floorball Team was too much for SXI to handle with the end result of a comfortable and predictable scoreline of 3-0.
The success of KFSPP 2014 is also due to a greater partnership and backing from the Penang Sports Council. With such support, the association believes that floorball will grow to the next level in the coming years. With the end of KFSPP 2014, there arise a new horizon of a bigger and better KFSPP. The KFSPP organizing committee believes that KFSPP 2015 will be a whole lot more interesting.
